Mechanics
Series
The Mechanics Series
was developed for students who already cue, but may need to revisit
key topics for applying Cued Speech to English. These classes are
thorough and accurate. Cuers who are seeking to improve expressive
cueing scores on standardized testing could benefit from attending.
Mechanics I: Intensive
:: 2 Days :: An overview of the essential elements
of clear and accurate cued English. Topics include: form, consonant
and vowel accuracy, connected discourse, flicks, and prosody. Students
learn to prioritize errors based on: impact to meaning, clarity,
and standardized test measures.
Mechanics II: Worksession ::
2 Days :: In this course, students work on applying the concepts
covered in Mech. I. Practice activities are structured to encompass
a broad range of topics while allowing individuals to emphasize
specific skills. Prosodic features of cued English are explored
in detail.
Mechanics III: Self-Assessment
:: 2 Days :: The objective of this course is to provide
students with a clear and accurate view of their cueing ability.
Each student will prepare a cueing sample, then privately view and
assess the material focusing on specific skills. Students learn
techniques for both qualitative and quantitative analysis.
Mechanics IV: Consultation
:: 2 Days :: This course is designed to help students cope
with the anxiety that accompanies testing and evaluation. Strategies
that boost performance on standardized testing are introduced. Students
consult with each other and the instructor to construct a profile
of their cueing skill level and determine readiness for testing.

Mechanics Series is a collaborative effort between the Cued Language
