New
Cuers
After you have completed an introductory
Cued Speech class, you will begin building automaticity –
or fluency in producing the handshapes and placements of cueing.
STEP 1: Devote specific
practice to the aspects of learning to cue that posed a personal
challenge for you. Did you have trouble differentiating /s/ and /z/?
(Our interactive games and activities
might help.)
STEP 2: Practice in the way you intend
to use cueing. If you hope to transliterate someday, practice
cueing from tapes, the television or the radio. If you are a teacher
or parent who will cue for yourself, practice cueing your own thoughts.
STEP 3: Build fluency. Push yourself
to cue a little faster than you are accustomed. Be careful never
to cue in pain. Also, strive to build speed without sacrificing
accuracy.
